| on page 8 of the handout, there is a list of 24 words.awkward /adequate /develop /genres source /target /trainee /intuition providing /context /utmost /accumulate task /qualified /seek /applicable accuracy /surpass /bias /Reformer render /obscurity /constitute /mandatory you need to look up their meaning according to the context they appeared in this hand out.
for example the word :awkward
its Arabic meaning from http://translate.google.com includes : - Quote :
حرج غير ملائم أخرق صعب المراس خطر More detailed explanation in English from Longman : http://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/awkward
- Quote :
- 1 making you feel embarrassed so that you are not sure what to do or say
2 not relaxed or comfortable: 3 difficult to do, use, or deal with: 4 not convenient: 5 an awkward person is deliberately unhelpful We have so many meanings, the one i want is the meaning suitable to the sentence it appeared in - Quote :
- A semantic translation tends to be more complex, more awkward, more detailed, more concentrated, and pursues the thought-process rather than the intention of the transmitter.
obviously is is not (حرج):making you feel embarrassed so that you are not sure what to do or say
also, not (غير ملائم): not convenien
Clearly not (أخرق), (صعب المراس) or (خطر)
since we are not talking about a person, then it can not be : an awkward person is deliberately unhelpful
because "awkward" is an adjective to ( the intention of the transmitter), it cannot be : "not relaxed or comfortable"
the only one that fits the sentence is : " difficult to do, use, or deal with ". especially if you look to what was before it : (more complex) = أشد تعقيدا ً من.
Now, when you write it in Arabic make sure to use the right part of speech (since awkward is an adjective, your Arabic word must be an adjective.
more awkward : أشد صعوبة /أصعب
Pay attention to your English AND Arabic spelling: (ا,أ,إ,ـه,ـة)
The Marks Division will be as follows :
WORD IN ENGLISH | WORD IN ARABIC 1. half a mark | half a mark 2. half a mark | half a mark 3. half a mark | half a mark 4. half a mark | half a mark 5. half a mark | half a mark
a spelling mistake will cost you the whole mark handwriting a quarter for each mistake punctuation a quarter for each mistake
remember a full stop comes after a short form like v. adj. and at the end of a sentence.
BONUS CHANCE: this will be a word from the chapters we took but not listed in the 24 words on page 8. half a mark for the word in English and half on it's meaning in Arabic
